| ACTIVITY INFORMATION << return to Event Calendar Designing Bee Block Habitats and Mosquito Traps Apr 07, 2010 Learn how to make and host bee block habitats for native pollinators. The Mason Orchard bee, and the Leaf Rolling bee are two of the solitary pollinators that are local to Arizona. Building a nesting block or creating space for these and others will benefit your fruit and veggie production with minimal cost and minimal bee encounters. Make it, stick it up and forget it - add some flowers, and in no time you will have a bee oasis! ALSO, we'll show you how to assemble a natural mosquito trap. Combine plants, still water and select fish, and you quickly have a micro pond that serves as a natural trap for pesky bugs - a community service! Don talks about the types of mosquitos, how to live together [or not], how to manage this permaculture strategy, and what to do when the Vector Control truck fogs You. $10 Suggested Donation (ca$h or check to the Phoenix Permaculture Guild) The Tempe Transportation Center is located at 200 E. Fifth Street (north side across from Forest Ave) at the base of A-Mountain. The class will be on the second floor in the Don Cassano Community Room. Go UP elevator. There’s a light rail stop there if you’re taking the train. Parking is available across the street in a covered garage, which is $1.50 for the first hour and free thereafter. Metered parking is free after 6pm. Website: http://www.phoenixpermaculture.org/events/designing-bee-block-habitats Location Information: Tempe Transportation Center Tempe [View Mapquest Map] |
